It’s not all about the City Centre!

Hi Stephen here. As the co-founder of Top House Serviced Apartments I have found that people predominately visit our cities for their tourist attractions and famous landmarks. Liverpool has got the second most amount of tourist attractions outside London – so make’s sense. Manchester is also great for shopping and probably the best place to shop outside of the capital.

Born and bred scouser, I know we have a lot to shout about in Liverpool. The Beatles, our famous football clubs, not 1 but 2 Cathedrals! Liverpool ONE, our famous waterfront and World Heritage status……I could go on, but there is also another side to the area. Take a look at these suggestions:

Formby Beach

Glorious beach with dramatic sand dunes, surrounded by sweeping coastal pinewoods.

Either jump on a Merseyrail Train at Central Station in the City – 30mins journey to Freshfield Train Station, gateway to an unbelievable beach.

Rare wildlife, prehistoric footprints and miles of coastal walks are just waiting to be discovered – part of Formby’s amazing and ever changing landscape. Enjoy breathtaking sea views or a picnic; head out on a bracing coastal walk or find out about Formby’s fascinating coastal history with links to asparagus growing and the early days of aviation.

Whether you want to walk, run or ride your bike there’s something for everyone at Formby, the perfect place to get outdoors and active.

Speke Hall Gardens & Estate

Beyond the black & white is a Tudor house with a Victorian personality

Speke Hall is a rare Tudor timber-framed manor house in a most unusual setting on the banks of the River Mersey. Restored and brought back to life in the 19th century, it is a unique and beautiful mixture of Tudor simplicity and Victorian Arts and Crafts’ aesthetics.

Built by the devout Catholic Norris family – keen to impress visitors with the grandeur of their home and in particular the magnificent Great Hall – this beautiful building has witnessed more than 400 years of turbulent history. From the Tudor period when a secret priest hole was an essential feature, to years of neglect and decay in the 18th and 19th centuries (including a spell when it was used as a cow shed) and then being dragged into the Victorian era of improvement and technology, the Hall has seen it all.

In the 21st century, Speke Hall and its surrounding estate now provide a real oasis from the hurly burly of modern life. As you come through the gates, relax, take a breath and enjoy all that this wonderful place has to offer. The Hall is surrounded by beautiful restored gardens and protected by a collar of woodland.

Situated close to Liverpool John Lennon Airport, only a 20 minute drive from the City Centre or hop on a train from Central Station in the City Centre and head for Liverpool South Parkway Train Station. There you will find plenty of buses to take you to Speke Hall.

Otterspool Adventure

Head over to Otterspool Prom. A famous waterfront area of Merseyside. Not far from the City Centre. Jump on a bus or get a Taxi for the short journey (approx £8.00). Experience a picturesque walk alongside the River Mersey and see first hand the vast expanse of the famous waterfront.

Otterspool Adventure, situated in the park is an outdoor activity centre for the kids. The aim of the Liverpool play centre is to keep the little ones entertained and give the adults a break!

The kids can unleash their energy and run wild in our outdoor play area, making full use of our play equipment and meeting other like-minded adventurers! Their 12-hole adventure golf course is guaranteed fun for the entire family, while the challenging maze is one for those who like a brain teaser – plus, plenty of surprises along the way! Their Racing Rangers activity gives the kids a chance to test their driving (safely, of course), and the inflatable pillow is simply good old-fashioned fun!

When the time comes for refreshments, the café is the ideal place to grab a bite. With a large selection of food and drinks for both grown-ups and little ones, you definitely won’t go hungry! The Ice Cream Barn is a big hit with our visitors, where you can get your hands on a range of delicious flavours of ice cream!
